Who is required to complete Continuing Education?

Licensees seeking to prevent their licenses from expiring and remain compliant with TDLR are required to renew their license every two (2) years. 

Note:  a licensee who has held a practitioner license for at least 15 years may satisfy the continuing education requirement for renewal by completing department-approved courses as follows:
  (1) for renewals before September 1, 2025, one hour of sanitation; or
  (2) for renewals on or after September 1, 2025:
    (A) one hour of sanitation; and
    (B) one hour of human trafficking prevention.
Note: Barber licensees are exempt from continuing education requirements until 9/1/2025.

Which course should I enroll in?

TDLR licensees are required to complete four (4) hours of department-approved CE (continuing education) training to renew Cosmetology Operator licenses as well as cosmetology related or specialty licenses. 

What will I learn in a CE course?

CE Requirement are set by TDLR.  

  • One hour in sanitation


Three hours of your choice in any of the following topics

  • Human trafficking prevention (mandatory topic of instruction)
  • The Texas Barbering and Cosmetology law and rules
  • Any topic listed in Section 83.202 of the rules
  • Sanitation required under the law and rules
  • Mental health awareness
